Steel strand is a steel product made up of multiple steel wires twisted.  Now let’s lerning this product from the following ways:

1. Classification:
Steel strands are mainly divided into galvanized steel strands and prestressed steel strands. Power steel strands are a kind of galvanized steel strands, which must be hot-dip galvanized. The zinc layer must meet the national or international steel strand standards. A Zinc-plated, AB-galvanized, B-galvanized.

2. Diameter:
The diameter of commonly used prestressed steel strands is in the range of 9.53mm-17.8mm, and the largest sales volume is 15.24mm. Mainly used for highways, railways, high-speed rails, large-scale construction projects, coal mines and mining development. There are a small number of steel strands with a larger diameter.

3. Structure:
There are generally 7 steel wires in each prestressed steel strand, and there are also 2, 3 and 19 steel wires. Metal or non-metal anti-corrosion coatings can be provided on the steel wires. HDPE coated with anti-corrosion grease or paraffin wax is called unbonded steel strand.

 
4. Manufacturing process:
The manufacturing process is divided into monofilament manufacturing and stranded wire manufacturing. The (cold) wire drawing technology is used to produce monofilaments. According to the different materials of the product, it can be high carbon steel wire rod, stainless steel wire rod or medium and low carbon steel wire rod. Zinc should be electroplated or hot-dipped on the monofilament.
In the strand manufacturing process, a stranding machine is used to twist multiple steel wires into a product. The prestressed steel strand needs to be continuously stabilized after forming. The final product is generally collected on the reel or finished by reel-less.

5. Purpose:
Galvanized steel strand is usually used for messenger wire, guy wire, core wire or strength member, etc. It can also be used as an earth wire/ground wire for overhead power transmission, a barrier cable on both sides of a highway, or a structure cable in a building structure. Prestressed steel

6. Production process:
It is almost the same as the process of steel wire rope. It also starts from wire rod-pickling and phosphating-wire drawing-galvanizing (the galvanizing of the steel strand must be hot-dip galvanizing)-stranding-stabilization treatment (if it is prestressed steel strand Line)-finished product
